Charlotte 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz named Dee Tolliver Director of Basketball Operations, August 15, 2002. Tolliver, a former four-year letterwinner for the 49ers who played three seasons under Lutz, graduated cum laude from the university with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. He served as an assistant coach at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., last year.

Tolliver, a remarkable three-point specialist during his career with the 49ers, shot .421 from three-point range as a reserve guard. He averaged 2.2 points over his four-year career.

“Anytime you get an opportunity to hire a former player, it’s especially rewarding,” Lutz said. “Dee was the ultimate team player during his career, here. He’s always said he wanted to coach and to be able to give him his first collegiate opportunity is exciting.”

A native of Garner, N.C., Tolliver attended both Garner High and Oak Hill Academy, producing a perfect 4.0 GPA in his high school career.

“It’s been a dream of mine to work at the collegiate level,” said Tolliver, “and coach Lutz has helped me reach that goal.”

During his career, Tolliver scored a career-high 12 points vs. Memphis as a sophomore and led the 49ers with nine points in an NIT game vs. Mississippi as a junior. Of particular note, Tolliver hit the 49ers lone three against Saint Louis, as a senior, keeping the 49ers decade-plus streak of games with at least one three, intact.
