Philip Poole is in his third season as member of the 49ers coaching staff.

Poole is currently the director of goalkeeping for the Charlotte Soccer Academy. He also serves as a member of the North Carolina Olympic Development Goalkeeper Coaching staff. Poole is also fortunate enough to be a member of the Region III ODP coaching staff. He is the goalkeeper coach for the Charlotte Eagles men's and women's professional soccer teams as well.

Prior to those coaching positions, he spent a season as an assistant coach at his alma mater Wingate University. During his playing career at Wingate, he was a four-year starter as well as two-time team captain, who led the Bulldogs to two South Atlantic Conference championships in his career. He was named SAC freshman of the year in 2000. He also earned all-conference and all-southeast region honors in his career.

He graduated from Wingate in 2004 with a degree in Parks and Recreation Management.

The Newcastle, England native, played as a youth player with Newcastle United before spending three seasons with the Hull City AFC.

He holds a USSF "A" License, a NSCAA Premier Diploma and a National Goalkeeper Diploma.

Poole's development of goalkeepers at pro, college and club level has been very productive by placing two goalkeepers in the MLS, producing USYS Region III team participants, aiding two US Youth National team keepers, and many All-Conference/All-Region keepers.

Poole and his wife Melissa reside in Charlotte. They have a daughter Isabella.
