Sari Rose is in her third season as a member of the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer coaching staff after spending the 2004 season as an assistant coach at Rutgers University. Rose is involved in every aspect of the program, but particularly recruiting and goalkeeper training.
Rose played a major role in helping sign the highest-ranked recruiting class in the program's history this past spring as recruiting coordinator. The 49ers class was ranked the best in the Atlantic 10 and the 19th-ranked class in the country.
"I have tremendous respect for Sari and her devotion to this team," Charlotte coach Jon Lipsitz said. "She has proven herself to be an excellent recruiter and has played an integral part in the success of this program."
While at Rutgers, she was in charge of recruiting and training the goalkeepers. Prior to that she spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Butler University, where she was also in charge of recruiting and training the goalkeepers.
Before she began her coaching career, she was a standout goalkeeper at Wake Forest University. She helped the Demon Deacons make three NCAA Tournament appearances including a 1997 Sweet Sixteen appearance. She ranks second in Wake Forest history with 228 career saves and tied for third with 10.5 career shutouts.
Not only did she excel on the field, but in the classroom as well, Rose was a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and the Wake Forest Dean's list. In 1999, she was named the ACC Wake Forest Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Politics and Religion from Wake Forest in 1998 and then earned a Masters of Education degree in Social Studies Secondary Education from Wake Forest in 1999.
The Middletown, New Jersey native, holds a USSF "D" License as well as a Level I Goalkeeping, Youth National License and Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA.
She also serves as a member of the Region I ODP and the North Carolina state ODP coaching staffs. She served as an assistant on the North Carolina ODP team under head coach Art Rex, who is the father of 49ers senior tri-captain Ashley Rex.
"I remember playing at Charlotte while I was at Wake," Rose said. "I remember the great atmosphere and facilities that Charlotte had then and have seen how they have improved since that time. It is also incredible to be able to work with Jon since he has been a coaching mentor of mine. I am excited about being a part of rebuilding the women's soccer program. The administration has been incredibly supportive of our program; with the facilities and administrative support, there should be no reason why we can't have a top ten program here. We have an amazing group of young women who are dedicated to helping see the team succeed, and I am honored to coach them."
