Jennifer Herzig is in her second season as an assistant coach with the 49ers. Herzig, a four-year letterwinner as a catcher, assists in all aspects of recruiting and other daily operations of the program, with an emphasis on working with the Charlotte hitters, infielders, and catchers.
During her playing career, Herzig was honored for her work in the classroom repeatedly, earning two Conference USA Academic Medals (2000-2001) and NFCA Academic All-America honors in each of her four years (1998-2001).
Upon graduation from Charlotte, Herzig joined the staff at East Tennessee State as a graduate assistant coach. In her first year at ETSU, Herzig's responsibilities included coaching the outfielders and catchers, serving as the team's recruiting coordinator, and coordinating all travel arrangements. Herzig served as the Buccaneers' interim head coach during the fall semester of 2002, and then finished out the year working primarily with the Buc hitters, infielders, and catchers. In 2003, East Tennessee State won 28 games and advanced to the title game of the Southern Conference Tournament. During her two-year tenure at ETSU, Herzig was responsible for the recruitment of two All-Southern Conference players and one So-Con Pitcher of the Week.
In addition to her work as a player and coach, Herzig has served as a counselor at numerous softball camps at universities across the east coast, including Florida State, Ohio State, Georgia, North Carolina, and Furman.
Herzig graduated cum laude from Charlotte in 2001, with a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice and a bachelor of science degree in psychology, and earned her master's degree in physical education and sport management from East Tennessee State in 2003.
