Michaela Quinn is in her sixth season as head coach of the Charlotte women's tennis program. She has enjoyed the greatest first four seasons as a head coach in the program's history.

She has won 51 matches and started her career at Charlotte with four straight winning seasons, which had not been accomplished since a stretch from 1985-88 seasons.

In 2004, she coached the 49ers to 14 wins, which was the most wins by the program since the 1998 season and the most by a first year coach. They also finished sixth in Conference USA which is the best Conference USA finish by the 49ers.

In 2005, she again coached the 49ers to 14 wins including a six-match winning streak. The 49ers have rewritten the record books during her two seasons with Laura Swain, Kathy Robey and Ashleigh Murray putting their names at the top of all the school single-season and career records.

In 2006, she guided the 49ers to 16 wins, which is the most by the team since 1991. The 49ers also recorded their best conference finish ever by reaching the championship match of the A-10 Tournament. Ofria Friedman and Murray earned All-Atlantic 10 honors.

2007 was another winning campaign, with Charlotte getting to 12-10 overall and finishing third in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Freshman Ana Spivakovsky was named the league's Freshman of the Year and won 26 singles matches, which broke the school record.

While this is Quinn's sixth season at Charlotte she is no stranger to the city and the 49ers women's tennis program. She is a graduate of Charlotte's South Mecklenburg High School. Her first tennis coach was longtime 49ers coach Penny Brawley.

"We are very pleased having Michaela coaching our women's tennis team," director of athletics Judy Rose said. "The fact that she comes from Charlotte, played for Penny and considers Penny her first coach makes it even more special."

Quinn came to Charlotte after spending two seasons as an assistant men's and women's tennis coach at UNC Greensboro. At UNC Greensboro, she assisted head coach Jeff Trivette with all aspects of the women's program.

Before beginning her coaching career, she enjoyed a stellar four-year playing career at UNC Greensboro. She served as a team captain and was a four-year all-conference doubles player. She earned a bachelor's degree in recreation, parks and tourism in 2000.

During the summer of 2002, she served as a USTA Southern Section Davis Cup team coach for the 12-and-under division. In that role, she conducted practices and set lineups for match play.

While in college, she served as the head tennis pro at the Cedarwood Pool in Jamestown, N.C., for two summers.
